VW Hints Again at a T-Roc Release With New YouTube Video
Is the Volkswagen T-Roc coming out in 2018?
Volkswagen is hitting the ground running with SUVs in 2018, and it’s about time. The latest news is that the Volkswagen T-Roc, a concept flaunted at the 2017 Geneva Auto Show, may finally go into production. This naturally raises some questions. Is it coming to the U.S.? And would it be a 2018 or 2019 model year? Here’s what we know so far.
The VW T-Roc will be smaller than the Tiguan
Three years is a long time to wait for a concept to become a reality, so we don’t expect it to mimic what we saw then. Volkswagen has recently revealed a new video to YouTube, but it focuses almost entirely on the design team and thoughts behind materials. So here’s what we know so far.
In the video, the model is frequently referred to as a car, and we expect it to be a subcompact crossover. That is to say, bigger than the Golf, but smaller than the current Tiguan. The original concept photos were very much like a robust sedan/crossover mix, so recent spy photos actually have us believing it may have grown in size.
The video doesn’t give us much information about pricing, the final design or even features – aside from the hint that the VW Digital Cockpit may also be an available feature. Which is not surprising, since we’re seeing it presented in both the Atlas and the new Tiguan.
So what can we tell you? Well, you won’t have long to wait on new information. The model is set to premiere on August 23. The VW video for the T-Roc was also not revealed on the company’s official USA news site, which makes us question whether we can expect it in our lineup or not. If so, Motor Trend has indicated we might see a 148-horsepower 1.4-liter turbo 4-cylinder paired with the 6-speed DSG.
It might also be that we don’t see the vehicle until 2019, and only if sales of the Tiguan and Atlas prove the investment in SUVs are worth it. Would you drive the T-Roc? Share your thoughts with a comment here at the Brandon Volkswagen Blog.
